There are many ways to implement this estimation and counting activity. Young mathematicians fill jars with objects to create "mystery jars." Add difficulty by using smaller objects. After counting, learners secretly record their exact number. Consider having them fold and tape it to the bottom of the jar to ensure it isn't lost. Others estimate how many objects they think are in the jar, using various strategies. Have scholars explain what strategy they used!
