An unfortunate spill of 92,000 rubber ducks into the ocean in 1992 elicited invaluable information about global ocean currents as scientists tracked their journeys around the world. In this lesson, students first learn about the Ocean Conveyer Belt, which is a representation of how ocean water circulates around the globe. They then apply this knowledge to predict the routes the rubber ducks might have taken, and compare their predictions to the observed paths of the ducks.
