National Museum of Natural History: American Mammals: Stejneger's Beaked Whale

Curated by ACT

Thirty-one of the 48 sightings of Stejneger's beaked whale have come from Alaskan waters. It is suspected this species favors deep waters, including the Aleutian Trench and the Aleutian Basin, which is some 3,500 m deep, rather than the shallow waters of the Bering Sea. Learn more about the Mesoplodon stejnegeri, more commonly known as a Stejneger's Beaked Whale, in this easy-to-read species overview by the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.
