From its beginnings in 1903 when the USA leased land from Cuba to its virtual isolation once Castro and American broke relations, followed by its time as a military base, and finally the announced closure when President Obama was elected. To date, there are still prisoners on the base and it has yet to close. (January 4, 2011)
