This Painting Faces: Interpreting Portraits lesson plan also includes:
Over the course of four sessions, upper elementary learners explore the elements of visual art and portraiture and the work of Canadian painter Robert Harris (links included). (Paintings by any portrait artist will fit the plan; choose someone whose work reflects the demographics of your class.) They write a short biography of the artist they study. Finally, they create self-portraits from photographs. Rubrics are developed collaboratively by the class.
