Start simple by using a shape-partitioning activity. Scholars begin by segmenting basic shapes in halves and quarters. On the second page, they move on to more complex shapes, such as a heart and a cross, also partitioning them in half and in quarters. If you have time, this would be great to do with actual shape cut-outs, allowing pupils to fold them into these segments. There are five shapes on each of these two pages.
