One of the Fathers of Confederation, Sir George-Etienne Cartier worked tirelessly to promote political stability through Confederation. He served as co-premier of Canada with Sir John A. MacDonald. Using his skills as a lawyer, he played a key role in negotiations to create the provinces, as well as those between the Canadian and British governments.
