Students interpret basic chemical formulas. When class begins, students interpret a "chemical formula" for fruit salad. After they interpret the recipe, students use the same strategies to identify chemical formulas. They evaluate the coefficient and subscript to determine the number of molecules and atoms in each formula. Students use sticky notes as models to write chemical formulas. As independent practice, they write their own lunch recipe using chemical formulas.
