Do your scholars know that the letter g sometimes steals the j phoneme? Explore the letter g using these strategies combining pronunciation, recognition, letter sound, and word examples. Scholars examine the letter shape and listen to you pronounce both the hard and soft /g/ sounds. Brainstorm words that begin with these phonemes and challenge kids to a fast-thinking letter-recognition game. Pupils watch as you point to letters one at a time; if you point to a g they say both possible sounds. For all other letters, they stay silent. The pronunciation guide isn't worth your time for this one, but the letter cards may be helpful.
