In the 16th lesson in the series of 32 the class uses the concept of complex multiplication to build a transformation in order to reflect across a given line in the complex plane. The lesson breaks the process of reflecting across a line into components that are already known, such as rotations and reflecting across the real axis. Using the same process, pupils derive formulas for general reflections.

Instructional Ideas
- Use patty paper or transparencies to review reflections and rotations on the coordinate plane
- Review the notation used for transformations
Classroom Considerations
- The class should have a thorough understanding of transformations from Geometry
Pros
- The answer documents show all of the steps needed to arrive at the solution
- The scaffolding includes suggestions for all types of learners — those that need more help and those that are proficient
Cons
- None
