Routledge Encyclopedia: Greek Philosophy: Impact on Islamic Philosophy

Curated by ACT

This article is a discussion of the Greek-Hellenistic philosophy within the Islamic world. Early Islamic philosophers shunned the influence of Greek philosophy; however, over time that view began to change. Certain philosophers hailed certain ideas as being liberating and noble. The rise of Neoplatonism is discussed as well as Arabic translations of Greek philosophical texts. Other sections include eclecticism and the systematization of philosophical ideas, the legacy of Aristotle and presocratic and post-Aristotelian philosophers.
