Students solve problems involving exponents. Through a teacher led discussion, students explore the rules of exponents and create cards with "x's" on them. Given a division problem, students lay out "x's" to represent the numerator and "x's" to represent the denominator. Students practice taking away the matching the "x's in the fraction to discover the exponent rule for division. A similar process is used to discover the rule for multiplying exponents.
