Lesson Plan

Scholastic: Summarizing by Text Messaging Shakespeare

Curated by ACT

This is a lesson in how to summarize a play by William Shakespeare, in this case Romeo and Juliet, by writing a 140-character text message for each selection that students are assigned to read. The text messages are sent to a website, then projected onto a screen, and the class reviews them and decides which ones are the best summaries. The strategy could be used for any of Shakespeare's plays.
