There are five methods of seed dispersal. They include gravity, mechanical, animal, water, and air. Scholars study seed dispersal in instructional activity five of the series of six. Through discussions, hands-on analysis of different seed types, and testing how far their seeds will disperse, groups then consider whether plants' ability to migrate is affected by climate change.

Instructional Ideas
- Depending upon the size of classes, have two fans, two buckets of water, and two stuffed animals so groups aren't waiting their turns
Classroom Considerations
- Duration of the lab could be two to four class periods
- Each group needs at least three different types of seeds that are dispersed in different ways; a link to Carolina Biological Supply is included where you can order sets of seeds
Pros
- Great hands-on activity to understand seed dispersal, which then translates this new knowledge to a real-world event, climate change
- Lab provides all worksheets, directions, links to related resources, and extension suggestions
Cons
- None
