Leadership preparation begins with early and meaningful opportunities for teachers to lead. The traditional span of control in schools with one principal supervising scores of teachers is outdated and no longer functional. Distributed leadership relieves the principal from nonessential tasks and provides teachers with meaningful ways to contribute outside the classroom. Inquiry teams in which teachers examine data and student work is an excellent example of important work that can give teachers a sense of ownership and build necessary skills. Teachers need encouragement and support to engage in these activities. Consists of six videos.
