Looks at the history of the Overland Mail Company's Butterfield line, in honor of its 150th anniversary in 2008. It describes the tensions that existed in the territory that it crossed, between slave-owners, slaves, union supporters, and Native Americans. Much of it focuses on Colbert's Ferry crossing and Benjamin Franklin Colbert.
