The Hamilton & Scourge Project

The Hamilton and Scourge were two American schooners used and sank during the War of 1812. Both currently rest on the bottom of Lake Ontario. Background about the War of 1812, as well as how these ships were used is provided. In addition, read the story of Ned Myers, one of the few survivors of the Scourge, along with how the shipwrecks were discovered and the many artifacts preserved. These two shipwrecks have are considered to be excellent specimens of the ships of the era because of the extreme depth (300 ft) and cold temperatures of the water. An interactive glossary of important terms is also provided.
