Describes what happened to Germany at the end of World War II and the start of the Cold War, how it was divided into East and West Germany with the construction of the Berlin Wall. Western countries worked to rehabilitate their half of Germany, while Russia wanted Germany to pay for all the damage it suffered when the Germans attacked it. This led to democracy in the West, and the quashing of individual freedoms and free speech in the East. The events that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 are also described and the experiences of reunited Germans.
