No one will be saying "Not I" with a lesson that combines The Little Red Hen with the life cycle of a wheat stem! After reading the story in your class, pass out wheat stems to your learners and have them examine the plants closely, including showing them how to thresh the seeds from the rest of the plant. They complete a instructional activity about their predictions and observations, as well as a vocabulary matching activity.

Instructional Ideas
- Create a script out of the story, and have kids act out the parts in front of the class
- Assign the hen, the goose, the cat, and the pig to various students, and have them call out their lines as you read the narration around them
- Have kids write about a time when they didn't want to do a chore at home
Classroom Considerations
- You will need enough wheat stems for each kid in your class, or you could provide a few per group for them to pass around for observation
Pros
- A nice way to link your language arts and science curriculum
Cons
- None
