An informative set of slides inspects the Willamette River. Hydropower dams, agriculture, and the presence of major cities on its banks have led to increased bacteria, temperature, and mercury content as well as skeletal deformities in minnows, man-made chemicals in the tissues of eel and sturgeon, and the placement of native salmon on the list of threatened species. Use this in an environmental studies course as a prime example of how humans alterations have impacted the riparian environment.
