This Thermal Expansion and Sea Level Rise lesson plan also includes:
Placing a thermometer and a glass tube into a flask of cold water and sealing it, you can expose it to heat and very visually demonstrate thermal expansion to your earth science class. Follow it with a discussion about how the increasing global temperature could affect shorelines around the world as thermal expansion occurs. Add to the discussion that increasing temperatures melt ice and further contribute to rising sea levels. If you have the time, design a lab sheet so that groups perform the demonstration in the lab and answer related questions.
