In this tiling with pentominoes learning exercise, 10th graders solve 3 different problems related to tiling with pentominoes. First, they define pentomino as a type of polygon and locate 10 other pentomino shapes in the figure shown at the top. Then, students select two of the pentomino shapes found and draw tiling patterns for each shape. In addition, they determine which of the 12 pentominoes can be folded to form a box with no lid.
