Biographical sketch of Tom Thomson who's "landscape paintings in oil created an enduring image of the Ontario North. His art both reflected and reinforced developing Canadian nationalism". He was an engraver, commercial artist, and businessman before becoming a full-time artist in 1913, then drowned four years later in 1917 in Canoe Lake.
