The Maiasaur is a kind of hadrosaur, a dinosaur that lived in the Upper Cretaceous Period. Much of what is known about the Maiasaur came from the fossils found at Egg Mountain in Montana. Jack Horner, a well known paleontologist, discovered the site. The Maiasaura peeblesorum, a duck-billed dinosaur, is Montana's state fossil. This is a direct result of the efforts of Montana school children, who petitioned for the Maiasaura peeblesorum. How this came about is described in this article and makes for an interesting read for students.
