The city of Aleppo in Syria goes back to the second millennium BC. Situated at the intersection of important trade routes, it was at various times under the rule of Hittites, Assyrians, Arabs, Mongols, Mamelukes, and Ottomans. This World Heritage site highlights buildings from the 12th to 17th century. Found here are a description, maps, documents, photos, a video, and a Syrian State of Conservation report on its recent condition given the armed conflict in Syria.
