Even though the student handouts are not included in the write-up, this lesson contains the instructions for terrific activities to use when teaching middle schoolers about metamorphic rocks. First, they compare granite to gneiss and notice the striations. Then they create a model using clay and toothpicks to discover how the striations are produced. They also examine a set of five metamorphic rocks and find other identifying characteristics. Finally, they determine what type of rock each was formed from.
