When comparing groups of objects, it's easy for children to identify which has more, but it's not so easy for them to explain their reasoning. This simple whole-group activity provides multiple opportunities for learners to compare numbers and share with their peers the approaches they use. When grouping the objects, consider using varying the arrangements to encourage the use of different strategies for comparing numbers. A fun and engaging activity that supports young mathematicians in developing their number sense and the ability to communicate their ideas with others.
