This house was the summer home of pioneer aviator and explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd from 1937 until his death in 1957. Here he planned three Antarctic expeditions, wrote, and drafted what became the 1959 Antarctic Treaty. Wickyup was destroyed by fire in 1984.
