This fine Federalist house was the home of diplomat and United States Attorney General Caleb Cushing (1800-79). Cushing is known for negotiating the 1844 Treaty of Wanghia, the first treaty between the United States and Qing China, and other diplomatic successes. The house now serves as the headquarters of the local historical society.
