Rufus Putnam (1738-1824) was a Continental Army officer in the American Revolutionary War. After the war he pioneered the settlement of the Northwest Territories, serving as its first Surveyor General. This house, built in the early 1760s, was his home in the 1780s. Although it was for a time a local museum, it is now a bed and breakfast.
