Chief Shu'nuni'u (1783-1867), known best as Souligny, led the Menominee of Wisconsin for close to fifty years. He sided with the British during hostilities and was instrumental in standing up for his people during negotiations for the Treaty of Lake Poygan. His actions helped prevent his people from having their community moved across the Mississippi.
