A lesson plan, with printable activity sheets, from the producers of the 16-episode PBS series "Freedom: A History of US." Designed to help learners examine the anti-immigrant sentiment that led to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the growth of such anti-immigrant organizations as the Know-Nothings, the lessons ask students to examine the meaning of a political cartoon and to role-play the decision-making process of immigrant families. Access to the video for the series is not required.
