Inspired by Carly Patterson's song, "Here I Am," students will write personal narratives, focusing on one to three experiences in their lives which have shaped them. After filling out a survey about themselves and discussing some of the specific words in the song, the students will search their memories for answers to questions like, "How did you overcome a time when you were terribly afraid?" or "What kinds of things are you hoping for in the near future?" This on-line prompt encourages students to reflect deeply about their experiences, strengths, and hopes as they reveal themselves as interesting human beings.
