In this lesson, Roni Schotter's picture book entitled The Boy Who Loved Words is used as the mentor text. This Language Arts Common Core Standards-aligned lesson pre-writing task engages learners in writing a collection of ideas of story starters that begin with participial phrases. Students will use these story starters at a later time for development, and during the later drafting, learners should be re-directed to the use of participles and correct punctuation from this story-starting lesson's product. An interactive button is included on the lesson to help inspire creativity with the use of participles in sentences. [Requires Adobe Reader.]
