In this lesson, Hoops, written by Robert Burleigh, is used as the mentor text for its use of adverbial phrases. After several exposures to the mentor text, students will use click the buttons with the words "Who", "What", "When", and "Where" until they find enough words to form a sentence that they like. Then students will write a story based on the new sentence and place it anywhere in the story. As the students write, students will alternate writing long and short sentences. After finishing their stories, students will read each others' stories and try to find the sentence that inspired the rest of the sentences. [Requires Adobe Reader.]
