NewseumED: News Reporting
Three lessons comprise the NewseumEd unit module. For the first lesson, young reporters have an opportunity to craft a news story about a topic that interests them. They select a topic, research it, and write their story for a class publication. Next, teams examine the articles written for the series' first lesson, select one to investigate in greater depth, and craft a revised version to post in a class publication. The third and final lesson in the Reporting series tests young journalists' ability to be objective in reporting contentious topics. After brainstorming a list of topics that interest them, the class selects one, and individuals draft fair, engaging, and informative articles. Pairs then share and peer review the stories for fairness and publish their revised articles.
