left to right: Marine biologist Dixy Lee Ray (1914-1994) and chemist Glenn Theodore Seaborg (1912-1999), September 17, 1968. Ray left a professorship at University of Washington to be director of the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, 1963-1972. When this photograph was taken in September 1968, Seaborg was receiving the Arches of Science award sponsored by the science center. Ray later served as chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, 1973-1975, and as governor of Washington State, 1977-1981
