Even though the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt ended over 100 years ago, we can still learn something from his stances and policies that is applicable today. Class members first look over a list of prevalent political issues from the Roosevelt administration, including immigration, conservation, and America's role in the world. They then examine selected platform goals from the Roosevelt campaign and conduct historical research to determine whether his goals were met by the policies he implemented.

- If you don't have time for a larger research project, encourage learners to come to class with current articles about the listed political issues, and have them discuss the differences in small groups
- Assign the second part of the activity as a persuasive writing prompt in which pupils argue whether or not Roosevelt reached his campaign goals
- Allow advanced or older students to add additional political topics to the list and to conduct their own research
