Dr. Robert Ballard returns to the Titanic after his famous discovery in the 1980s. Dr. Ballard and scientists from NOAA spent eleven days conducting scientific analyses of its deterioration. Three lesson plans are available that focus on this exploration and research. In "Looking for Clues" students will draw inferences about a shipwreck given information on the location and characteristics of artifacts. "Galvanic vs. Titanic" will enable the students to describe galvanic exchange and explain how it contributes to the deterioration of the Titanic. "What's Eating Titanic?" Students will be able to explain how processes that oxidize iron in Titanic's hull differ from iron oxidation processes in shallow water.
