In the first activity, young scholars practice identifying the author's purpose as to entertain, to persuade, or to inform. In the second activity, students use graphic organizers to identify the author's purpose as well as evidence from the text. The third activity teaches young scholars to distinguish the purpose of texts on the same topic that have written by different authors.
