When this photograph was distributed, Anna Chao Pai (b. 1935) was a predoctoral student in the Department of Genetics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, working with Dr. Salome Waelsch on developmental genetics and cross-breeding special strains of mice. The granddaughter of a Chinese warlord (Marshal Chang Tso Lin), Anna Chao had immigrated to the United States in 1940 with her family and had graduated from Sweet Briar College in 1957.
