Biochemist Ethel Ronzoni Bishop (1890-1975) taught at Washington University Medical School. After attending Mills College (B.S., 1913) and Columbia University (M.A., 1914), she taught home economics at University of Missouri and University of Minnesota and then in 1918 began graduate study at University of Wisconsin, where she earned Ph.D. in physiology in 1923. At Wisconsin, she met and married physiologist George Holman Bishop (1889-1973). They moved to St. Louis and both joined the Washington University faculty, where she taught biological chemistry and neuropsychiatry until she retired in 1959
