Slavery not only involved the forced migration of African people from their homes, it also meant the forced removal of people within the United States. Using data and interactive graphics, scholars see how the tragedy of human slavery led to movement of people away from loved ones during the antebellum period as they were sold or moved to fertile lands in the American West. Class members then explore the narratives of those affected by the internal slave trade within the United States.
