Discussion of the critical reading skills needed in Social Studies, although the skills discussed can apply to a variety of areas. This is part of a larger site containing numerous lesson plans for Social Studies, and this page is really meant to explain some of the reading strategies that their plans are supposed to use. There are a many good ideas for teaching critical reading that can be applied outside of their plans, though, including tips for before, during, and after reading, as well as information about Bloom's taxonomy, academic vocabulary, and preparing college-bound students.
